Fixing a Chrome freezing issue

I am devoting my first post to a small fix I found.

The problem is that Chrome freezes for about a minute after the computer wake from sleep. You may think it's a network problem, but at that time other browsers such as Microsoft Edge can work without problems.

I had this issue for several months and could not find a fix. I even started to use Microsoft Edge. Today that post gave me some hints. In my case, the culprit is the Blackberry Virtual Private Network adapter. After I uninstalled it, the problem disappeared.

Applying for a California DMV driver license without a SSN

The DMV website doesn't have complete and in-depth information on how to apply for a driver license without SSN.  To apply, you'll need to create a MyDVM account. However, you won't be able to complete the process without providing a Social Security Number. You have to visit a DMV location to get everything going. Here's a breakdown of the process based on my experience: 1. You don't need to get a decline letter from Social Security Administration saying that you are not eligible for a SSN. Some people said online that that letter is needed. In fact, it is not. 2.  Bring your government ID and two pieces of documents that show your address. For most of the people with SSN, a government ID should be a foreign passport as well as the US visa. Make sure you bring the latest I94 form, which shows you when you last time entered the U. S. 翻墙避坑指南

为了从中国大陆翻墙，我听从了有些博客的推荐，购买了2款还算价格便宜的国外大厂VPN，StrongVPN和Surfshark。刚开始用的一个多月，还凑合能用，但两家在2023年7月都没有躲过封锁，导致接下来的几周时间几乎无法翻墙。那时看了很多相关视频后才了解到那些推荐VPN的博客的观点都并非客观，因为他们要赚推荐费。也是那次经历让我知道了所谓的“机场”。我相信，用过机场之后，没有人会再去用VPN。 下边是我总结的VPN的槽点： 1. 初次翻墙时VPN的设置并不容易，需要寻找攻略以及反复尝试，才能找到可用的协议以及服务器位置等配置。而且这些配置并不能保证你每次都可以成功连接。这种不稳定性恰恰就是VPN的最大的问题所在，因为你因此浪费掉的时间是最宝贵的。 2. 即使连接成功，还会有莫名奇怪的原因断开连接，或者连接未断开，但就是上不了想上的网站。 3. 连接成功以后，想浏览国内的网站可能会非常慢。在手机环境下，可以使用两个浏览器，一个上外网，一个利用split tunnel的机制绕过VPN上内网，但是这显然也有点复杂。在桌面电脑环境下，没有split tunnel的机制，只能手动断开VPN上内网，如果要同时上外网，只能在断开和连接VPN间频繁切换，烦不胜烦。 4. 晚上时间由于用VPN的用户较多，即使能够连接成功，网速也很慢。 5. 相比稳定的机场，这些所谓的国外大厂的收费是贵一大截的。 6. 我发现这些VPN对有些APP的网络支持并不友好，比如Interactive Brokers。在使用Surfshark的情况下，Interactive Brokers在指纹登录时每次都失败。 用机场的关键问题是需要找到一个存在时间长，大型的，稳定的机场，避免那种随时可能跑路或者用户较少的机场。我找朋友打听了一个，试用之后发现确实不错。我在这里就不方便透露机场的名字了。找到一个机场后付费按照它的官方指南安装使用就行了，学习的过程并没有想象的麻烦。学习之后一劳永逸，使用过程中也没有上述VPN的烦恼。 总结一下，对于初次学习翻墙的网友，建议忽略VPN，直接找一个可以信赖的机场使用，这是最经济最简单最稳定也是最方便的方式。
